Designers Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien are designing the premiere of the imm cologne’s new series “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage”, the sponsors of which include colour specialists RAL. During the presentation of the concept and the initial designs for their installation at the London press conference on 22.09., the Anglo-Indian designer couple emphasised the important role played by the sensuous materiality and colourfulness of their wall elements. There’s more to colours than just red, green and blue. The human eye, for instance, can distinguish between approximately 10 million different hues. It would certainly be impossible to give them all a name: we have enough problems making ourselves understood when it comes to simple shades. At the end of the day, everybody defines descriptions such as light yellow or bright orange in a slightly different way.
The fact that colours convey emotional messages and embody certain characteristics is nothing new. Green symbolises hope, for instance, yellow stands for envy, and love is red.
