The effects of 150 years of wind, weather, sun, rain and frost, the seasons, inscribed on the surface of a piece of furniture: that is what the Saga box from furniture manufacturer Morizza aims to express. Each box tells its own story and has its own, individual texture. more…
At Pure Village, Christian Dorn, owner of design studio Stiltreu, will be presenting his new seating furniture in a collection that bears his own name. According to Dorn, the products reflect the special importance he attaches to a mixture of clear design vocabulary and a love of detail.
During the imm cologne the Museum for Applied Arts and Design Cologne – the so called MAKK – has this year a very special program. The special exhibition ” Von Aalto bis Zumthor” shows exclusive furniture, designed by architects, from the past 100 years. At the design talk „Design’s two Ways“ designers from Italy and Germany discus about the different approach to design.
“Paradise” by Coldplay pours out of the speakers of the Pure Village stereo system, helping the trade fair construction workers get into the groove as they erect “Das Haus” for koelnmesse’s new design event of the same name. There are however frequent interruptions to this musical accompaniment: the squealing of circular saws, the sounds of hammering and drilling and the voices of the construction workers as they call to one another across the hall.
No architecture, no interiors: time and time again, it is outstanding architectural works that have a decisive influence on innovative interior concepts. For as preferences with regard to contemporary buildings change, our interior design tastes naturally change as well. A look at building styles in the private sector shows that changes in certain conditions can result in entire room concepts changing.
The next-generation designers take a self-confident approach to new technologies and are more than willing to improvise when it comes to turning experimental ideas into prototypes. Many designers have come to terms with the idea of turning their product ideas into reality single-handedly, either as spectacular one-offs or in small editions. This has led to the development of an aesthetic language that is less indebted to industrial considerations and even less inclined to compromise. Humorous, unconventional, flamboyant, ambitious, visionary and sometimes just ingeniously simple – that is the face of young design today. The following example offer a foretaste of what the contest has in store.
An individual spa in your own home, a world full of naturalness and wellbeing, specially created to help you relax and regenerate – that is what Grohe and Kaldewei will be showing visitors in their joint presentation at the imm cologne 2012. With Your Home Spa, the fittings specialists and tub experts are aiming to combine modern design and natural colours with innovative technologies and creative functions.
In 2012, too, Pure Village visitors can look forward to a wide range of interesting information. Renowned referents will be presenting fascinating lectures on interior trends at “The Stage”. Please find an overview of the schedule here:
In September 2011, Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien explained their concept for the “Das Haus” project to Koelnmesse’s Creative Director Dick Spierenburg. The creativity in the designer couple’s London studio is so tangible you can literally reach out and touch it. A little model gives all those involved with the project an initial impression of the spatial structures.
Most of the cubes are already standing, the structure that will be shaping Pure Village 2012 is already discernible. A big open space in the middle of Hall 3.2 is the only indication that there’s still something special in the offing. And this is exactly where the foundation stone for koelnmesse’s new design event “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” is to be laid. A few days before Christmas Eve, the imm cologne’s Creative Director Dick Spierenburg came by to see how things were progressing for himself and clarify the final details with the construction manager.
