The effects of 150 years of wind, weather, sun, rain and frost, the seasons, inscribed on the surface of a piece of furniture: that is what the Saga box from furniture manufacturer Morizza aims to express. Each box tells its own story and has its own, individual texture. At the same time, the look of this 150 year-old beam is not meant to be transferred to the furniture one-to-one, but merely to serve as a source of inspiration and allow the dimensions to be played with.
In order to make the warmth and feel of the wooden surface tangible, the carcass is made entirely of real oak veneer. In a specially developed printing process, the motif is printed straight onto the surface of the wood, dispensing with the need for foil. The printing also encompasses the surface of the carcass, the uniqueness of which is meant to give the piece of furniture its own special personality. The different textures are intended to open up a new perspective on wood as a material – a perspective that factors in its natural character.
According to the manufacturer, the mitred, slightly rounded edges give the Saga box a particularly lightweight look. The interior of the box provides plenty of scope for creativity. And thanks to the glass shelves, the beam effect continues on the inside too. The Saga box, presented for the first time at Pure Village, has been awarded the Interior Design Award 2012.
